SUMMARY:

The objective of this study is to analyze the territorial dynamics of the/the gypsies/the Calon residents in Penedo, in the south of Alagoas, as well as the regimes of memories related to the presence of this ethnic group in the mentioned city. As for the territorial dynamics, the process of "abode" is approached, understood as a process of fixation of the Calon families in Penedo and the meanings they attribute to their own circulation and fixation. This dynamic gave rise to the neighborhoods of Vila Matias, Santa Madalena and São Rafael and the subdivisions Santa Luzia and Sant'Ana, marking the constant presence of the/ as Calon in Penedo since the 70’s. With regard to the regimes of memories involving the/as Calon, it will deal with absences and representations forged by the non-Roma population and contrasting with the memories drawn up by the/as Calon, whose presence, performance and protagonism have recently gained greater visibility. Based on the data produced through ethnography, the most recent mobilizations of/the gypsies/as and the elaboration of the memory of the quot; address; process show the role of the/das Calon in the construction of a new memory regime in the city of Penedo-AL, aiming at the recognition of the ethnic and cultural specificities of the Roma population, the importance of their participation in the history of the city and the need to elaborate specific public policies for their inclusion. Given these scenarios, it can be reflected that the Calon de Penedo, live in constant search for citizenship, although the fixation brought other aspects in the territorial dynamics - quiet of a conquered territory in the maintenance of roaming and circulation for business - in order to continue the "tradition of walking" in a resignified way.
