SUMMARY:

This research identifies and understands how Afro-Brazilian dance was constituted in Alagoas from 1980 to the present day. The backdrop is the pioneering and protagonism of the non-Alagoas choreographer Eduardo Xavier dos Passos and the Alagoas choreographer José Petrúcio Trindade and the foundation of the first Afro dance group in Alagoas, the Ekodidé Group of Afro-Brazilian Dance that was based on the dance of the Orixás performed in the Terreiros de Candomblé of Alagoas. The historical trajectory of Afro-Brazilian dance takes as a reference the experiences and experiences of choreographer Mercedes Baptista, who studied the dance of the Orixás in Terreiros de Candomblé, in Rio de Janeiro, in the 1950s. The ethnography of this research happens from the bibliographic survey, interviews, document analysis, participant observation and the field research itself. The stories and narratives that compose this research provide the reflection of the importance and appreciation of the Afro Alagoas dance, of the choreographers, artists and dancers of this Afro making in Alagoas, being them the main narrators, builders and authors of the ethnographic making of these Afro Alagoas corporalities. The centralizing question that arises and remains during the writing of this research is: Is there an Afro Alagoas dance? This dissertation also analyzes a thought of Afro dance pedagogy from Alagoas from the experience report in Afro dance workshops held with Diego Bernardes, Mãe Nany and Afoxé Odoyá, in addition to the experience report of the realization of an initiation workshop to Afro Brazilian dance in Ladeiras – SE taught by the researcher to understand in practice formulas and methodological strategies of Afro Alagoas dance. The reflections and considerations carried out in this research aims to contribute and provoke the anthropologists and artists of Alagoas to observe, research and focus on the making of black arts in the context of Alagoas.
