SUMMARY:

Both the memory and the territorialization processes of Afro-Alagoas religions are still marked by the profound repercussions of the 1912 Quebra de Xangô episode. This terreiro (house of worship) was inaugurated in the 1980s and in 1996 it was established in Benedito Bentes, a neighborhood located on the outskirts of the upper part of Maceió. Since then, the Legionirê has been expanding through new houses descendants of the “root” terreiro, which currently number is about 28, constituting an idea of a “religious branch”. With this in mind, this work intends to discuss the territorialization dynamics of these descent terreiros, their ritualistic processes, to think about the construction and reconstruction of these groups memory, and to discuss notions like "root" and "rama" in the religious context.
