Politics, cosmology, and education among the Sikuani of the Wacoyo reservation (Colombia)
Sikuani ethnic group. Social and political organization. Cosmology. Indigenous education. Interethnic relations. Knowledge tradition.
This work focuses on conducting a literature review that
examines the contributions of several authors dedicated to the
study of the Sikuani ethnic group in the Wacoyo reservation,
specifically in the Kaliawirinae community located in Colombia. It
emphasizes the importance of carrying out a critical evaluation
of existing research on this community, with a focus on their
social, political, cosmological, and educational organization,
while recognizing the significant influence of historical, social,
and environmental interactions. The work highlights the need to
question the generalizations that often limit the exploration of
variations within the community, emphasizing the importance of
a deeper and contextual approach. Additionally, this study draws
on the perspectives of prominent anthropologists such as Barth,
Ingold, and Kurttila, among others, who provide essential tools
for understanding the dynamics of interethnic relationships,
perceptions of ethnic boundaries, and the tradition of
knowledge. The methodology employed includes a review of
existing literature and data collection in the Wacoyo reservation,
encompassing the retrieval of documents, historical records, and
interviews with community members. This work contributes to
the understanding of cosmology, ritual processes, and education
in the Wacoyo reservation, enriching the research by
incorporating the perspectives of the community and other
sources. Furthermore, various areas of future research are
proposed, such as the study of the influence of
“neochamanisms,” knowledge transmission dynamics, and
specific challenges in the implementation of educational policies,
among other relevant topics.
