SUMMARY:

This study describes the activities and past data obtained, related to the Environmental Management Plan (PGA) of the dredging works to expand the access of waterway infrastructure to the Port Complex of Maceió-AL in 2018. It includes activities provided for in the Program of Environmental Monitoring, in the Water Quality Monitoring Subprogram, carried out in three sampling campaigns (before, during and after the dredging activities), corresponding to the months of March, May and August 2018, respectively. In all sampling campaigns, monitoring of water quality, current metering, in addition to surveying meteorological data were carried out. In addition to the aforementioned activities, the collection of bottom sediments (at a depth of up to 21 meters) and surface sediments (1 meter below the water line) was also carried out in van Dorn bottles (2L), properly stored in a thermal box with ice for conservation and sent to the laboratory for further analysis. In the field, “in situ” data were also obtained for the parameters turbidity, dissolved oxygen, oxygenation percentage, temperature, electrical conductivity and salinity with a multiparametric probe and water transparency with a Secchi disk. The current velocity and direction profiles were determined with ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) SONTK with a frequency of 1.5 MHz, fixed laterally to the boat, with the aid of non-magnetic metallic supports along predetermined and georeferenced transects in the area of study. In laboratory, the collected samples were filtered and later determined the nitrogen and phosphate series and RNFT/SST by the colorimetric, spectrophotometric and gravimetric methods, respectively. At the end of the campaigns, the multiparametric data were tabulated and then compared to the acceptability values established by CONAMA Resolution 357 of 2005 for Class 1 saline water. The winds were considered weak, with a predominant direction always from the ocean to the land, with an average speed below 1.0 m/s. The currents observed were weak, with a predominance of velocities below 0.5 m/s, while the direction of the currents varied according to the sampling moment, with greater fluxes occurring in the superficial layers, and predominance in the NE-SW direction. With the exception of the phosphate series, the other parameters analyzed were in accordance with the Resolution, in all sampling campaigns, both in the port's evolution basin and in the disposal area, in addition to the dynamism observed before, during and after the dredging works, which also obtained records in agreement, provided for in the management plan.
