SUMMARY:

Our general objective is to analyze the studies of the Regions of Influence of cities – REGICs, carried out in 1967, 1972, 1987, 1993, 2007 and 2018, analyzing the hierarchy of municipalities in the state of Alagoas. Therefore, we sought in a particular way to relate the municipalities of Alagoas, verifying their hierarchical evolution within the state of Alagoas with the studies promoted by the REGICs, in order to analyze the hierarchy and structure of the urban network in Alagoas according to the hierarchical levels and to identify the influence relations of the cities of lower hierarchy to those of higher urban hierarchy, showing how their hierarchical evolution was from the REGICs. For this, we will make use of quantitative research, through data collection with the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics - IBGE, in order to offer the most current data for the research. We start from the idea that the hierarchy of urban centers according to the 2007 REGICs, published in 2008 and REGIC 2018, published in 2020, is constituted by Metropolises (Grande National Metropolis, National Metropolis and Metropolis), Regional Capitals (Regional Capital A, Capital Regional B and Regional Capital C), Sub-Regional Centers (Sub-Regional Center A, Sub-Regional Center B and Sub-Regional Center C), Zone Centers (Zone Centers A, Zone B Centers) and Local and that Regions of Influence of Cities are links established between the smaller centers to those of higher hierarchy, being a network formed by a set of urban units linked together. From this methodological basis used in REGIC 2018, the hierarchy of urban centers is defined through the centralities of public management of the territory (assessing levels of centrality of the Executive and Judiciary at the federal level) along with the centrality of business management, as well as the presence of different equipment and services, which took into account the classification of the management centers of the territory, the intensity of relationships and the dimension of the region of influence of each center and which regions of influence of the cities are the intensities of the connections that the cities have each other.
