SUMMARY:

Population growth in the world, in recent years, has configured a scenario of intense transformation in the environment, negatively affecting aquatic environments, since changes in land use, deforestation, the expansion of agriculture and energy production and food has significantly contributed to river water pollution through the deposition of sanitary sewage, solid waste and highly polluting products that lead to an increase in the flow rate of macronutrients in these waters, such as phosphorus (F) and nitrogen (N), which then change from nutrients to pollutants. Characterized as a small river, the Paraíba do Meio river has a gap in the studies aimed at transporting suspended material that it is capable of carrying out. Along its margin, it has an intense change in its physical, chemical and biological conditions, due to the way its use for social and/or economic purposes is done by the population, establishing a mechanism for the deterioration of local biodiversity, which consequently tends to compromise its use for social and/or economic purposes. Among the effects configured in the aquatic environment due to the accumulation of nutrients, eutrophication stands out, characterized as an environmental problem caused by the increase of nutrients in aquatic ecosystems, such as nitrogen and phosphorus, which have a considerable variety of origins, which do not they come only from urban areas or industrial sewers, but also from land-based agriculture. Thus, this research aims to determine the Trophic State Index (TEI) and nutrient load behavior in a section of the Paraíba do Meio river (Alagoas - AL) during a two-year hydrological period (2016-2017 ) and its social and environmental implications. The flow rate and rainfall data for the hydrological years of 2016 and 2017 for the Paraíba do Meio river were obtained through the HidroWeb portal, a tool that constitutes the National Information System on Water Resources (SNIRH) and provides information collected through the Network National Hydrometeorological (RHN), which aggregates data such as river levels, flows, rainfall, being coordinated by the National Water and Basic Sanitation Agency – ANA. A Pearson correlation will be performed between the flow rate and rainfall of the Paraíba do Meio river for the period under study (2016 and 2017). The data referring to the physical-chemical parameters of the water in the section of the Paraíba do Meio river considered in this research were obtained from the Database of the Environmental Geochemistry Laboratory (IGDEMA-UFAL). Thus, such data were related to the parameters Ammonia (NH3), Nitrite (NO2-), Nitrate (NO3-), which are the forms of Nitrogen found in aquatic ecosystems, Dissolved Phosphorus, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Oxygen Saturation, Turbidity (UNT), Water Temperature (°C), Chlorophyll a, Salinity, Hydrogen Potential (pH), Electrical Conductivity and Total Suspended Solids (TSS). For the determination and analysis of the Trophic State in the water of the Paraíba do Meio river for the years 2016 and 2017, the Trophic State Index (TEI) obtained through the method that Carlson (1977) developed for lentic environments (such as lakes) was used. ) using transparency, total phosphorus and chlorophyll a as water quality parameters, which was modified by Lamparelli (2004) for the analysis of the Trophic State in lotic environments, such as rivers.
