SUMMARY:

Over the years, the Prison System has been analyzed, mainly from a social and criminal
law perspective, however, it is noticeable the need to discuss all the dimensions that
make up the space, as a geographical category, in this case, to analyze the prison space
is to recognize it as part of the territory, thus understanding the relationships that
engender it, as it produces and reproduces the actions of the current global society.
Considering the growth of studies focused on the prison population, there must be a
geographic contribution to elucidate the prison space and its producing and reproductive
agents, in addition to denoting the social inequalities of the capitalist system and urban
violence as marks of the current technical-scientific period. -informational. The
objective of this proposal is to understand the geographic configurations that involve,
among others, the construction of borders of structures and infrastructures, the border of
State power as a legitimizer of the use of violence and the deprivation of liberty as
punishment and social control of the population prison, contemplating its relationship
with the use of the territory, the origins of socio-spatial inequalities that surround it, in
addition to verifying the importance of this geographical object focused on the dialectic
between imprisonment and the possibilities of resocialization. The methodology is a
programmatic evaluation of the project developed in the Alagoas Prison System applied
by the Fábrica de Esperança program; in the case of a procedure in which information
from different governmental and social sources is analyzed using qualitative techniques.
The geographic coverage of the analysis is delimited in the practice that operates in the
prison unit Núcleo Ressocializador da Capital as one of the nine existing facilities in the
Penitentiary Complex of Maceió. It is considered relevant to discuss more in depth,
what is being argued as discourse and rhetoric about the positive results of casualties in
the records of escapes, rebellions and in the rates of criminal recidivism in relation to
the national average, absent from a focus on the possibilities of failures that the
government of Alagoas may be committing when subsidizing the human right to a
professional education, which is subsidized by the program, beyond the search to
generate statistics of recidivism and criminality in the state and that, therefore, requires
a critical and systematic evaluation About the subject.
