SUMMARY:

Present throughout the country, the capoeira circle and the craft of mestres are also spread throughout the state of Alagoas. The history of capoeira is made up of several complex historical events, which are being investigated by researchers from different areas of knowledge. However, the story of capoeira in Alagoas State is not completely told. In other words, there is still a great lack of in-depth studies on the subject in the state of Alagoas. The purpose of this research is therefore to understand the intrinsic historical relationship between capoeira's appropriation of territory in the city of Maceió, Alagoas State, and its possible contributions to the consolidation of cultural identity and the building of a citizen's spatial awareness. These questions underlie this investigation, which is based on the Cultural Geography perspective. They will make it possible to gain greater insight into the way capoeira, as a cultural manifestation, has organized itself in the capital city of Alagoas in its recent history, between 1980 and 2022.
