The process of urban expansion without planning policies and non-compliance with municipal planning (Master Plan) can lead to the incorrect use of urban spaces. In the case of the city of Maceió, the historical process of urban occupation is marked by the search for areas with low occupation costs, where the population, over the years, settled in sensitive areas and without any control or planning criteria. In order to identify these processes and make use of their results, we highlight the applications of geotechnologies. In this context, the use of geoprocessing techniques helps to show which areas can or cannot be occupied for housing purposes, especially in urban areas, which areas need to be preserved and, of those already occupied, which are or are not susceptible to environmental risks.
