INTEGRATED USE OF GEOPROCESSING AND REMOTE SENSING
APPLIED TO THE DEFINITION OF POTENTIAL AREAS FOR URBAN EXPANSION IN
MACEIÓ, ALAGOAS, BRAZIL.
Urban planning; City; Environment.
With population growth around the world, so did the
number of cities and their demand for space. Such growth is the result of
a development model adopted mainly from the revolution
industrial sector in which this process was one of the main vectors for increasing the
migration of people from the countryside to the city, making the country become
urban demographic point of view from 1970 onwards. However, this growth
carried out in a disorderly and accelerated way, resulted in several losses of
social and environmental character, which urban planning seeks to avoid.
In this way, the work in progress under the area of the Municipality of Maceió - AL,
objective, through geotechnologies, above all, Remote Sensing and
Geoprocessing techniques, identify environmentally and legally
favorable for the urban expansion of the capital, serving as a subsidy for the
decision-making of the public bodies responsible for the management and structuring of the
city, since its Master Plan (the main document for planning and
city management) is overdue for the review period, and the aforementioned
capital is experiencing a major urban tragedy related to the
subsidence of important neighborhoods in its urban area as a result of activities
extraction of rock salt, being urgent the proper planning of the city to
reorganize according to these, and other changes experienced in the urban environment and
city countryside.
