SUMMARY:

The Brazilian eastern Northeast has a diverse set of morphostructural domains, whose post-rift evolution took place from a series of morphotectonic and epigenetic reactivation processes. In this context, there are some of the domains inserted in the Jatobá sedimentary basin, which represents the northernmost portion of the Recôncavo-Tucano-Jatobá rift, whose genesis is related to the South Atlantic rifting, configuring itself as a branch of the same and in the crystalline lithotypes of the remobilized massifs of the Pernambuco-Alagoas Domain, which is a narrow strip of steep relief that borders the Tucano-Jatobá Recôncavo Sedimentary Plateau to the eastern limit. Thus, this research proposes to investigate the mechanisms of post-rift topographic evolution in passive continental margins escarpments, in the southern edge of the Jatobá basin area, more precisely comprising stretches of the sedimentary and crystalline plateaus, referring to the Serra do Parafuso and Serra da Onça, respectively. Thus, by the morphostructural conditions and drainage evidences, using morphological and morphometric parameters, strengthens the hypothesis that Cenozoic tectonic movements are responsible for the erosive scarps maintenance in sedimentary plateaus that have topographical quotas similar to crystalline plateaus is corroborated, on the same raised surface. To this end, we will start from the systemic approach, applied to the analysis of structures of geomorphological systems, dividing the research into two major stages; the first one, made up of the office work and the second, the field visits. The cabinet step, in addition to reviewing the literature, it will essentially focus on the application of morphometric indices, namely: Mountain Front Sinuosity (Smf); Normalized channel steepness index (ksn) and Hypsometric Integral (Ih). Thus, this study was made for justify the scarcity of geomorphological research in the area that deals with the influence of post-rift reactivation processes on the relief structuring and its hydrography.
