SUMMARY:

The homicidal violence rates in the state of alagoas, which were once the
largest in the country, in recent years have seen consecutive declines. However,
this reduction of statistics from a demographic perspective, happens in a way
unequal, since the black and brown population registers a relative risk of
victimization by homicide higher than the rest of the population. Focusing on this frame
reference, the ongoing research aims to analyze the racial disparities
homicidal violence in Alagoas territory through a qualitative and quantitative reading of the
available statistics, concomitant with the discussion on the role of structural racism
in shaping the given reality. Furthermore, public policies
undertaken within the scope of public security in the state of Alagoas. To your
operationalization in the light of Geography, we take as a contribution the territory category, the
from its uses, as proposed by Milton Santos (1996). methodologically
the development of the investigation has been carried out based on three stages: (1) the
bibliographic review that led to the elaboration of a state of the art on violence
in the territory of Alagoas and the option for the theoretical basis adopted; (2), the documentary research
(to be completed) in agencies and institutions, in order to obtain the necessary data to
quality of work and (3) data tabulation and calculation of homicide rates
per 100,000 inhabitants, taking into account the relevant population cuts
the search. Intending in this way, an analysis without losing sight of the character
asset of the territory expressed from its uses. Thus avoiding the risk of
development of a cold analysis of statistics and the mere spatialization of
data collected.
