SUMMARY:

The growth in the Brazilian real estate sector is evident, mainly caused by the Minha Casa, Minha Vida Program (PMCMV) which was launched in 2009 by the Federal Government. The main objective was to curb the economic setback that Brazil had been suffering from the 2008 global crisis, in addition to tackling the country's housing deficit. In a way, it can be said that these objectives were achieved, but what is notorious through arguments and research carried out on the subject and examples reported in the mass media that, in practice, the Minha Casa, Minha Vida Program ( PMCMV) has only worked as a profit tool for the real estate market, since it is guided by private interests, which determine from the implantation site to the material used in constructions. Most undertakings in the Minha Casa, Minha Vida Program (PMCMV) are aimed at families that will be removed by the government and have many social, urban and political problems. The objective of the research is to identify and analyze the main transformations that occurred in the Eustáquio Gomes de Melo complex, located in the Cidade Universidade neighborhood in Maceió/AL, and thus relate these changes to the spatial distribution of housing units and the socio-spatial segregation caused by the Minha Casa, minha vida program (PMCMV) in Maceió/AL. Most of these developments are located in the highest topography areas of the city, which is consequently the poorest region, lacking efficient public services and far from the residents' workplace. The research intends to contribute to the discussion about the worriments (impacts regarding the location, provision of public services, urban infrastructure, public equipment, transport, accessibility, health, education, as well as practical issues regarding the quality of construction materials and of architecture and number of dwellings per project), generated by the Minha Casa, Minha Vida Program (PMCMV), in the Eustáquio Gomes de Melo complex, Maceió/AL. Since the search for the right to the city leads us to several reflections on the issue of housing, since this has been the biggest struggle of the salaried working classes.
