Traditional Crafts; Biocultural Heritage; Quilombola peoples
The process of introducing capitalist agriculture in the countryside caused several impacts on the way of life of traditional populations, including the “cultural memoricide” as highlighted by Petersen (2015). This disappearance of cultures was due to capitalist influences in the rural environment, which affected the way of life in the countryside, however, such peoples andpopulations have developed strategies of resistance and recreation of theirculture, in order to ensure its sociocultural reproduction. In view of this, the present work aims to understand the light of Geography as the culture of crafts is an element of social reproduction of the Serra das Viúvas community, Sertão Alagoano, in the face of the influences of capitalist relations in the biocultural heritage of the traditional quilombola peoples. To carry out the research, the method of Historical-Dialectic Materialism was used, providing an investigation of reality, understanding the contradictions related to the historical process of society. Thus, this research was developed through a qualitative-quantitative approach, beingperformed bibliographic survey and data collection in the field, through semi-structured interviews with community representatives. The handicraft produced in the Serra das Viúvas Quilombola territory, located in Água Branca, Sertão de Alagoas, is an element of memory and identity of the community, as well as an economic alternative, in terms ofto make extra from artisan families. Such handicraft, fruit of the raw material of straw and vine, is based on a biocultural heritage, because, in addition to being an intangible cultural component due to the knowledge and tradition linked to such practice, it is also the result of the withdrawal of raw material from biodiversity. of their community, thus linked to both the cultural and biological aspects of traditional peoples and communities. In this regard, we found that the reproduction and protection of the Biocultural Heritage in the Serra das Viúvas community occurs mainly through artisan women, organized by the community association, who contribute to the maintenance of the traditional knowledge of their people, valuing beliefs and practices of these populations, in this sense. , the protection of this culture culminates in the expression of its identity, as well as showing how the recognition of this handicraft has a legitimacy value for its culture, in addition to being an alternative source of income for the community.
